Description

Student project for a brand called Perfect Match. The project was focused on taking a small item that has been underutilized because of a modern invention taking its place in society and giving it a makeover. For this project I chose matches as the underused item compared to their more modern invention being the lighter.

I did my research with heavy focus on the consumers by asking the following questions: what evokes people to buy lighters? and what made people buy matches? Through my research I came to the conclusion that the novelty aesthetic of matches is the determining factor. People love having an item that matches their look, their style, even if it is old and outdated. That is why the main element used were colors. Bright solid colors are what appeal to consumers and is what separates matches from their counterparts.

I explored a variety of logos that resembles a match and emphasis an iconic feel. This project consists of a modern logo of a flame paired a retro typeface to create a fresh look. I matched the color of the logo to the variety of color options offered for the matchboxes, and to further emphasis the matching, the tip of every match is the same color.

By the end of the project, I created a logo, packaging, animation promo, and posters to showcase a cohesive brand.

In this project I used Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe After Effects.

I was given 2 weeks to complete this project.
